Beneficiaries Block Highway Protesting Covid Vaccine Crunch In Boudh

Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt on the National Highway 57 in Boudh district on Wednesday after hundreds of people staged road blockade alleging scarcity of Covid vaccine doses at Adenigada session site in the district.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both side of the busy highway road due to the blockade.

The health department has informed that 3,000 vaccine shots will be administered to the beneficiaries at 11 vaccination centres in the district.

As many as 200 doses are scheduled to be administered at Adenigada centre.

Health officials said that the scarcity situation arose after huge number of beneficiaries rushed to the centre for inoculation.

However, police pacified the agitating beneficiaries following which normalcy was restored on the NH.

However, people gathered in huge numbers throwing social distancing norms to wind. Many of them were also seen standing in queues without wearing masks.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department has informed that the Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin will be available for all pregnant women across Bhubaneswar in Capital Hospital and other Government vaccination centres on every Wednesday and Saturday from today (July 21). Beneficiaries have been advised to visit the nearest centre with valid ID proof.

Notably, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department has intensified its vaccination exercise even as the single-day Covid 19 cases continue to decline in the State. However, number of fatalities has shown no sign of abetting.
