Bhubaneswar: After the Covid-19 infection count went through the roof in May, the trend is now declining in the State, said Public Health director Dr Niranjan Mishra on Monday.
Mishara said, “This is not a uniform phenomenon and cannot be generalised. But overall, the rate of infection in the State is plummeting.”
Speaking on the effects of lockdowns and shutdowns , Mishra told reporters, “The effects of the lockdowns and shutdown are generally noticed after four weeks. But we need to be more cautious, till the situation normalises.”
When asked about the ease in lockdown restrictions in Nuapada, Gajapati and Sundargarh districts, he said, “We cannot question the government’s decision. The relaxation is only for two hours and the other restrictions including weekend shutdown are still in force.”

Earlier yesterday, Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Pradipta Mohapatra had said the State's positivity has come down to 14% at present.
In terms of district-wise situation, he said that TPR was on a declining trend in 19 districts with positivity slumping to as low as below 5% in 5 districts.
Notably, Odisha on Monday reported 8,313 new cases taking the positive tally to 7,64,997 in the State. On the other hand, 35 more patients undergoing treatment for Covid-19 succumbed in the last 24 hours pushing the death toll to 2,754 so far.
