Around 99 percent of the eligible adult population have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine in Odisha, the Director of Health and Family Welfare, Bijay Panigrahi, informed on Saturday.

“So far, we have administered 6.77 crore doses of Covid vaccines and in terms of headcount, it comes to around 99 percent of our eligible population. On the other hand, around 80 percent of the target population have been vaccinated with two doses of vaccine,” Panigrahi told reporters today.

Around 50000 people have not received the first dose, so adequate door-to-door campaign is underway to identify and vaccinate all those who have not received their jabs, the top health official said.

In the case of the 15 to 18 year age group, around 75 percent of the eligible beneficiaries have been inoculated with the first dose while 54 percent of them have been fully vaccinated, Panigrahi said.

Similarly, 7.53 lakh people have been administered with the precautionary (third) dose of Covid vaccine.

The Health director further informed that as Odisha has now only 5 lakh Covaxin doses which may run out soon, request for more 10 lakh Covaxin doses have been made to the Centre for administering doses to teens at the earliest.

Odisha today reported 534 new virus cases and 18 deaths including that of a teenager. The number of daily infection figures has dipped to lowest in more than one and half months during third wave of the pandemic.

As on February 19, there are a total of 7,099 active Covid-19 cases in the State, including 1,303 in Khordha.
