The steep rise in daily cases of Covid-19 cases has now prompted the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to tighten restrictions in different parts of the city. The civic body on Sunday clamped ‘containment’ restrictions in seven more places in the south-east zone following detection of multiple cases of Covid-19.

Mahendra Badhei, Zonal Deputy Commissioner (Southeast Zone) informed that the containment zones have been declared in Jharpada, Kalpana, Unit-9 and some areas in Unit-2. “The people, who are being tested positive for Covid-19, are allowed to undergo treatment in home isolation. Our teams are shifting those who are seeking immediate medical assistance,” he said.

The senior official further said that already strict enforcement of the Covid-19 norms is underway and special drive will be launched in parks and other public places today.

It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha is currently witnessing a rise in the daily cases of Covid-19 infections. Today, 4714 new Covid-19 cases were reported from different parts of the State. This is the biggest single-day count recorded so far this year. A maximum of 1619 cases were reported from Khordha district alone.

In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases, the BMC has added two more hospitals to its list for effective management of the positive cases. BMC has signed an agreement with Hi-tech Medical College Hospital (239 beds) and KIMS Hospital (500 patients).

Presently Aditya Ashwini Hospital, SUM Hospital, CCC at Patia and Dumduma are operational in the city. With the addition of two more hospitals, the total bed capacity in various hospitals in the city has increased to 1,699.
