 As part of the ongoing strategy to contain the further spread of Covid-19, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday declared 11 more places as micro-containment zones in the city.

As per initial reports, four places under the north and seven others in the south-east zone of the corporation have been declared as micro-containment zones following detection of multiple Covid-19 cases.

With this, the total number of micro-containment zones in different parts of Bhubaneswar increased to 25 today.

The places which have been declared micro-containment zones in Bhubaneswar include-a flat near Budha park, some other flats in Niladrivihar, Satyavihar, Bomikhal,Saheed Nagar and Kharavela Nagar. Senior BMC officials said that several restrictions including the movement of people in the areas will be clamped for a period of seven days.

It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha is now witnessing a steep rise in the number of Covid-19 cases for the past few days. On Saturday, the State witnessed a sharp rise in the Covid-19 cases with the daily case count breaching the 3500 mark. The State reported 3,679 new cases from different parts of the State in the past 24 hours.

Khordha district accounted for maximum 1233 new cases, followed by 582 in Sundergarh, 372 in Sambalpur and 310 new Covid-19 cases were reported from Cuttack district.
