  • Odisha government on May 14 floated the online tender to procure 3.8 crore doses of Covid vaccines

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will slowly lift lockdown restrictions in a phased manner if the current trend of Covid-19 positivity rate persists in its downward curve in the next few days. Director of Health Services Bijay Mohapatra made the statement while addressing reporters on Saturday.

Mohapatra said that the present TPR of the covid pandemic is hovering around 10% and if it continues to dip, the State government may consider discussing ways to relax the strict lockdown curbs.

Notably, Odisha government has extended the State-wide lockdown for the third time in this second wave of the pandemic till June 17. Apart from that it has also allowed more relaxations in daily time period for opening of business establishments and sale of essentials for six hours from 6 am to 1 pm in three districts - Sundargarh, Gajapati and Nuapada which have been exhibiting less number of infections.

The top health official also commented on the status of the global tender floated by the State government for procurement of vaccines after Odisha government received two bids through the tender in the last day of the process.

Mohapatra has said that the detailed document verification of the two companies is underway but until they get technical clearance, it cannot be ascertained whether the process will be successful. It may be noted that the government is yet to reveal the names of the two bidders.

A notification issued by the Odisha State Medical Corporation said that the opening of the price bid will be done at 11.30 am on June 9. The OSMCL has clarified that the order of half of the total quantity will be awarded to the bidder, from whom the lowest quotation would be received.

The Odisha government on May 14 floated the online tender to procure 3.8 crore doses of Covid vaccines. But due to little response from vaccine suppliers and manufacturers, the government later relaxed certain terms and conditions. As per the revised regulations, vaccine manufacturers and authorized importers of Covid vaccines approved by the authorities of the USA, UK, European Union, Japan or the World Health Organisation for emergency use are eligible to bid.
