The Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) have sought a government bailout package for the small scale industries that have been hit hard by the pandemic situation.

At a presser in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, the UCCI office bearers alleged that banks are making the situation worse by not providing loans to micro, small and medium enterprises.

Informing about the critical condition of the small scale industries, president, UCCI, Brahma Mishra said it’s high time the government took steps to provide some succor to these affected industries. Like any other sectors, the MSME sector too is badly affected during the Covid-19 period. Now they have orders but are devoid of the funds required to execute those. In absence of immediate help, it would spell doom for these industries in the coming days, he said.

“Other states have initiated several steps for the success of ‘ease of doing business’. We have requested the government to replicate those steps in our State as well for the betterment of the industries. We hope, the government will consider our request and take some measures,” Mishra said.

The attending members at the conference alleged that the promises made in the ‘ease of doing business’ is not up to the mark in Odisha for which industrialists and investors from other states are turning their faces away from the State.

The UCCI thanked the State government for solving the problem with regard to the requirement of coal to produce steel and bauxite after raising the issue with the Central government.
