Good news for people who were yet to comply with the government’s directive pertaining to the linking of Permanent Account Number (PAN ) and Aadhaar as the deadline has been extended for another six months.

As per the latest notification issued by the Department of Finance, the deadline has been extended till March 2022. Earlier, the cutoff timeline for PAN-Aadhaar linking had been fixed to September 30, 2021.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in a statement said, “The Central Government, in continuation of its commitment to address the hardship being faced by various stakeholders on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, has, on consideration of representations received from various stake holders, decided to extend timelines for compliances under the Income Tax,1961.”

As per the latest notification, the time limit for intimation of Aadhaar number to the Income Tax department for linking of PAN has been extended from September 30, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Similarly, the due date for completion of penalty proceedings under the Act has also been extended from September 30, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

The CBDT has said that the time limit for issuance of notice and passing of order by the adjudicating authority under the prohibition of Benami Property Transaction Act,1988 has also been extended to March 31, 2022.
