Amid walking inflation in the market, likely increase in egg prices is going to pinch the pockets of the consumers in Odisha further.

As per reports, the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) has assured egg farmers in Odisha for raising prices of eggs after a round of discussion with State Agriculture Minister Arun Kumar Sahu.

Prior to the meeting, the All Odisha Layer Farmers’ Association (AOLFA) had staged a protest demanding hike in prices of eggs. The association had also submitted a three-point charter of demands to the NECC.

“We discussed about our demands with the NECC representatives from Hyderabad. They have assured us to give satisfactory solutions soon. We will decide about our next course of action after the reply,” said AOLFA Secretary Saroj Kumar Patra.

“Farmers are incurring around Rs 1.50 loss per egg. The Chief Executive Officer of NECC discussed about the issue with the farmers and has given a reference regarding this to the State government. He has also assured us to modify their pricing policy,” said another egg farmer.

Meanwhile, State Agriculture Minister Arun Sahu assured to extend all kinds of help to the egg farmers.

“Currently we are producing around 80-90 lakh eggs per day. We wish our egg farmers to grow further. More entrepreneurs are joining the sector under Chief Minister Farm Entrepreneurship Scheme. It will augment production and create more employment,” said Sahu.
