The petrol and diesel prices remained mostly unchanged on May 25 in Odisha including the capital city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

With the Centre announcing an excise duty cut on petrol by a record Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre, customers are reportedly paying Rs 103.18 per litre of petrol in the capital city of Bhubaneswar today while diesel is available at Rs 94.75 a litre.

Similarly, petrol and diesel are sold at Rs 103.71 and Rs 95.25 per litre respectively in Cuttack.

As per a fuel rate chart by goodreturns, petrol is being sold the highest in Malkangiri at 109.20. In Ganjam, petrol costs Rs 104.66 and in Sambalpur at Rs 103.78. Similarly, the rate of petrol is 103.75 in Bhadrak and Rs 108.05 in Koraput.

India meets 80 per cent of its oil needs through imports. Retail rates are adjusted according to the global movement in crude price.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on May 22 said the reduction in central taxes on petrol and diesel has been in road and infrastructure cess that is not shared with states, refuting opposition's criticism that the move will impact states' share in central revenues.

Sitharaman has also announced that the government would provide a subsidy of Rs 200 per LPG cylinder to over nine crore beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
