The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is reportedly considering an increase in the existing monthly salary limit of employees for pension benefits from Rs 15000 to Rs 21000.

A high-level committee has supported the proposal to enhance the wage ceiling under the EPFO to Rs 21,000 from Rs 15,000, as per a report by the Economic Times.

The panel, however, said the government can implement the increase from a later date considering all inputs, the report added.

The proposed revision is expected to benefit an additional 7.5 million workers bringing them under the ambit of the scheme, sources said.

The last amendment on the limit of pensionable salary was made in 2014 with the government raising the PF salary limit from Rs 6,500 to Rs 15,000.
