The prices of petrol and diesel continue to be on the higher side, but there has been no major changes in the rates of the fuel for nearly two months now.

The fuel rates in Odisha have also been steady.

Customers are reportedly paying Rs 103.47 per litre of petrol in the State Capital while diesel is being sold at Rs 95.03 a litre. In Cuttack, customers are paying Rs 103.78 and Rs 95.33 per litre of petrol and diesel respectively.

As per a fuel rate chart, petrol is being sold at Rs 109.20 in Malkangiri. In Ganjam, petrol costs Rs 104.79 and in Sambalpur, the petroleum product is priced at Rs 103.29.

Similarly, it is being sold at Rs 103.75 in Bhadrak and Rs 107.60 in Koraput.

On Friday, Maharashtra government had announced reduction in the VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 3, respectively.

The government on July 1 slapped a Rs 6 per litre tax on exports of petrol and ATF and Rs 13 per litre on exports of diesel.

The government also slapped a Rs 23,230 per tonne additional tax on domestically produced crude oil to take away windfall gains accruing to producers from high international oil prices, a separate government notification showed.

The tax on exports follows oil refiners, particularly the private sector, reaping huge gains from exporting fuel to markets such as Europe and the US.
