Volkswagen India has launched a new special edition of the Taigun in order to push sales during the ongoing festive season.
As is with most special edition models, the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition will also be sold in limited numbers.
Priced at Rs 16.3 lakh, GT Edge Trail Edition features only cosmetic updates over the standard Taigun. This means there’s a 'Trail' badge on the tailgate, special decals on the rear fenders, doors and C-pillars, functional roof rails, blacked-out 17-inch alloys, and red-finished front brake calipers. Exterior paint options include Carbon Steel Grey, Relfex Silver and Candy White.
Features
On the inside, Taigun GT Edge Trail gets new leatherette seat covers with ‘Trail’ embossing, stainless steel pedals and a dual-view dashcam. The rest of the equipment list mirrors that of the standard Taigun GT, so the Trail Edition also has hill start assist, front fog lamps, touch panel for the auto climate control system, auto headlights and wipers, wireless phone charging, reverse camera and powered wing mirrors, among others.
However, features such as ventilated and powered front seats, a sunroof, cruise control, a fully digital instrument cluster, full LED headlamps and six airbags, will be missing on this limited-edition model. The Trail Edition does get the addition of a dashcam that can record external and internal visuals and cast them on the in-built 2-inch IPS LCD display.
Engine specifications
The only engine available with the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition is the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol that puts out a peak 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. It’s paired with the six-speed manual transmission, which is the only gearbox on offer with the Trail Edition.
The Taigun continues to rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and Honda Elevate. While the compact SUV market in India is flooded with many models from several manufacturers, thanks to an ever growing demand from youths, Volkswagen India seems to have tried to tap some more sales in this festive season with the launch of a limited edition Taigun. However, only the quarter-ending sales report will tell how much the Trail Edition of Taigun will be appreciated in the market.
