Close on the heels of the successful launch of XUV 700, Indian auto maker Mahindra and Mahindra Limited is all set to launch a bigger SUV in the D segment of passenger vehicles.

The newer version of its super hit model Scorpio, is touted to be the grandest launch by M&M till now. The automaker has set the expectations of vehicle lovers soaring by releasing the teaser of the new Scorpio which is being marketed as the ‘Big Daddy’ of all the Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in India.

The teaser which was released on May 12, is voiced by Amitabh Bachchan. In the teaser, Mahindra makes it clear that new Scorpio will be a D-segment SUV.

Internally codenamed Z101, a global debut of the new Scorpio could take place in the coming months, followed by its price announcement and market launch. The current-gen Scorpio, also due for a minor update, will be sold alongside the all-new SUV, reported Autocar India.

The new Scoprio (Z101) will come equipped with multiple petrol and diesel engine options. It is also reported that the engines will be shared with the recently launched XUV700. However, their power outputs will be slightly lower. The diesel version is expected to come with more than one power output option.

Gearbox choices are expected to be a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque convertor automatic for all variants. Mahindra is likely to offer 4WD option in select variants of the new Z101 SUV.

Starting with the exterior, the front grill will get Mahindra’s newer logo for SUVs, which debuted with XUV700. As far as the overall design of the new Scorpio is concerned, the teaser does not show much of it.

But some spy shots published by the Autocar India have revealed that it will get vertically placed tail-lamps and a side hinged rear door. What the teaser does show is some of the rear bumper with horizontal chrome bits, a rear fog lamp along with reverse lamp, a faux aluminum skid plate and an exhaust outlet.

The car maker is likely to announce the price of the same shortly.
