The Union Cabinet recently approved a 3% hike in DA for central government employees, raising it from 50% to 53%. This will benefit over 1 crore central government employees and pensioners.
Meanwhile, Manipur CM N. Biren Singh has announced a 7% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) as a New Year gift to the state government employees, effective from January 2025. This will benefit over 1 lakh government employees of the state.
Announcing the DA hike from the prevailing 32% to 39%, the CM stated that his government aims to bring financial relief to government staff in the state. This apart, the CM also announced key initiatives to boost the state’s economy and entrepreneurship which is going through a tough phase due to the ongoing clash between the Kuki and Meitei communities.
CM Biren Singh has also announced aid for internally displaced people affected by the Manipur violence. Under the Entrepreneurship Support Scheme, at least 426 displaced people have received collateral-free loans to start or expand their businesses.
This aim will go a long way to empower entrepreneurs and promote economic growth in Manipur, the CM stated. Additionally, Singh said that the Manipur government-funded start-ups are set to provide jobs to internally displaced people.
Seven start-ups have been identified, and they plan to hire 432 displaced individuals, offering them a chance to rebuild their lives. The CM also announced plans to train around 500 youths in Delhi for cabin crew positions with Air India and IndiGo.
Furthermore, the Manipur government’s ‘One Family, One Livelihood’ scheme aims to support 5000 families by providing loans up to Rs 10 lakh with a 30% subsidy.
