As many as two people were killed on Sunday while 12 others sustained serious injuries in a tragic road mishap near Bhuiyan Square in Puri. A woman and an auto-driver lost their lives in the bone-chilling road accident.

The condition of seven of the injured persons is stated to be critical, reports said. All the injured have been admitted to Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). The incident occurred when a car-carrying devotees from Andhra Pradesh was en route to Puri for darshan of Lord Jagannath.

According to sources, the accident occurred after tyre of a bike burst in the middle of the road. The bike hit an auto-rickshaw on the road and the three-wheeler subsequently collided with the car ferrying the devotees from Andhra Pradesh.

All the people sitting inside the auto-rickshaw and car were injured while a woman and the auto-driver succumbed to their injuries.

Police and fire officials rushed to the spot and initiated measures to rush the injured persons to the Puri DHH. Both, the car and the auto-rickshaw have been completely damaged in the collision.

A day back, a group of devotees from Kolkata on their way to Puri were injured after the bus carrying them hit a stationary truck on National Highway-16 in Bhadrak.
