Three members of a family were killed after a speeding truck rammed into their motorcycle from behind at Jagmohan Chhak on National Highway-49 under Telkoi block of Keonjhar district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Tanka Patra, his wife, and their 11-year-old daughter.
According to sources, the victims hailed from Bahadapashi village under Barkote police limits in Deogarh district. The family was reportedly travelling on a motorcycle when the truck, coming from behind, hit them with great force.
"After being hit by the speeding truck, the trio lost balance and fell off the bike. The truck then ran over them, leading to their death on the spot, sources added.
The truck that caused the fatal crash was later intercepted near the Janasanpur toll gate. Telkoi police has seized the vehicle and initiated an investigation into the matter, sources informed.
Meanwhile, tension gripped the area as locals staged a protest over the frequent road accidents in the region, demanding a permanent solution. Hundreds of vehicles were reportedly stranded on both sides of the road.
