As many as three coaches of the Puri-Howrah express derailed near Malatipatapur station near Puri while the train was on its way to Puri on Saturday evening.

According to sources, there were no passengers in the coach when the mishap took place. Due to the derailment, the train was delayed. 

“An empty rake was on its way to Puri station. However, two coaches got derailed. No extensive damage was done and everything will fall in place soon,” informed Rinkesh Ray, DRM, Khordha.

Meanwhile, the passengers, who were waiting to board on the train at Puri Station, expressed discontentment due to the unexpected delay of the train. The train was scheduled for Howrah.

“We were to reach Kanpur, but due to the derailment, now we are waiting over an hour. It is announced multiple times at the station that the train will arrive soon, but it is seen nowhere. Even they are not informing if the train will arrive or not,” said a passenger.

Meanwhile, another passenger said, “Though they have informed that the train is delayed, the exact time of train arrival is not being informed. We are facing trouble carrying our children and heavy luggage as there is no place to settle at the platform.”

As per the latest information, the scene is no different at Bhubaneswar Railway Station. The railway station is heavily crowded with passengers waiting to board on their respective trains.

In view of the derailment of the empty coaching rake, several trains have been rescheduled. 

Here is the list of trains rescheduled.

Train no- 12838, Puri-Howrah Express, scheduled to leave Puri at 2015hrs on Oct 22 will leave at 0400 hrs on Oct 23.

Train no- 22890, Puri-Digha Express, scheduled to leave from Puri at 2105hrs on Oct 22 will leave at 0100hrs on Oct 23.
