In a tragic incident, two minor siblings drowned while taking bath in Salunki river at Chatijhara village under Tikabali police station in Phulbani on Sunday afternoon.

According to sources, the brother and sister duo aged around 5 and 4-years-respectvely was swept away by the strong current of the river while they were bathing in the afternoon.

The two children were rescued from the river by the locals in a critical condition and immediately rushed to Tikabali hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

The incident comes following series of river and sea drowning cases from several parts of Odisha in the last few days.

Earlier on Saturday, a man was swept away by a sneaker wave in Puri beach as his hapless son stood shocked watching his father disappear into the waves of the sea.

The man identified as Bansidhar Behera from Balasore has been missing since then. Life guards have been pressed into action and the search operation is currently on.

As per reports, the heart-wrenching incident happened near Chaitanya Chhak Puri sea beach. Banshidhar had come to Puri along with his family to have a darshan of Lord Jagannath at Srimandir.

In a similar incident, two Plus 2 students died due to drowning while taking bath in Mahanadi river in Paradip on Thursday.

The two boys hailing from Pathuria were taking bath when they went deep into the water but failed to return back. Some local residents jumped to their rescue and rushed them to a health center at Kujang.

However, the doctors at the health centre pronounced them brought dead.

A few days ago, three students also lost their lives after drowning in Mahanadi river near Jobra of Cuttack.
