The body of a woman was fished out from Satiguda reservoir on Friday, a day after two boats capsized in the dam in Malkangiri district. A man is still missing.

According to a source, a fisherman in a country boat had sailed into the Satiguda reservoir to catch fish. Similarly, a woman and his son had also gone to the reservoir in another boat. There they were caught in the storm caused by Nor’wester rain. Consequently, both the boats capsized.

While the woman’s son managed to swim to the shore, she and the fisherman in the first boat had gone missing.

As the news surfaced, the Special Relief Commissioner directed the ODRAF team stationed at Koraput district headquarters to go to Malkangiri and assist the fire personnel in the search operation.

At the time of filing of this report, the search operation for the missing person was underway.

On the other hand, two other persons were killed after a portion of the under-construction airstrip boundary wall collapsed under the impact of the gusty wind caused by Nor’wester rain in Malkangiri district. The deceased were identified as labourers who were engaged in the construction work.
