Head-on collision between bus and truck leaves several passengers injured in Odisha's Koraput

Several people sustained injuries after a private bus carrying passengers collided head-on with a wood-laden truck on National Highway-326 on Laxmipur-Dumuripadar road in Koraput district on Wednesday morning. At least 26 passengers were injured in the collision with six of them in critical condition.

The injured were rescued and admitted to different hospitals in the district.

According to sources, the private bus named ‘MSSB’ from Rayagada was en route to Jeypore in Koraput when the incident occurred. It collided head-on with the truck coming from the opposite direction. While the reason of the tragic collision was not known immediately, passengers attributed it to the high speed of both vehicles.

On being informed, fire personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons. Local police also reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.

“I was going from Laxmipur to Dumuripadar. We could not understand what happened. Before we could understand anything, there were people falling on each other, many seriously injured. It happened at around 8 am,” said an injured person.
