In a big scare for passengers of the Durg-Puri Express, a fire was reported under a coach of the express near Khariar Road Station on Thursday evening.

As per sources, the fire was spotted near the brake pads under the B3 coach of the train. As per preliminary report by the East Coast Railway (ECoR), the brake pads caught fire due to friction on account of incomplete release of brakes. There was no fire inside the coach and apart from the brake pads, no other damages were reported, informed ECoR.

ECoR confirmed that the problem was rectified and the train departed from Khariar Road station at 2300 hrs.

As per local sources, the fire was spotted as soon as the train reached the Khariar Road Station. Dense smoke started emanating from under one of the AC coaches. Passengers came out of the coach and soon the area was covered with smoke. Sources informed that the Fire Services personnel were called in and the fire was brought under control. After the fire was completely brought under control, the train was allowed to resume its journey.
