A massive fire broke out at a lubricants depot at Dhamra in Bhadrak on Saturday. In the mishap, lubricants worth lakhs of rupees were reportedly gutted.

After seeing smoke billowing from the depot, local people immediately informed the fire station. Later, a fire tender from the Dhamra Market Station reached the spot. They tried their best to tame the raging flame but failed. Another team from Dhamra Port joined the operation.

Even though, the fire engine that came from Dhamra port emptied its tank, the depot was still on fire. Then, another fire engine from Dhamra port reached the spot.

It took around two hours for the firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

While the reason behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained, local residents opposed the storage of inflammable materials near residential areas. They alleged the inflammable material was stored illegally and without the knowledge of the district administration.  Irked locals demanded a probe and action against the guilty.

No responses have been received from the Fire Department and the depot authorities.
