A Class 8 student was killed and another injured in a tragic road accident on the Kodala-Brahmapur main road on Thursday evening, sparking public outrage and a blockade of the Bhubaneswar-Aska highway.

The deceased, identified as Shubhakara Nahak, was returning home from tuition along with another student, Swapnajit Nahak of Class 10, on a bicycle when a cement-laden truck ran over them near the busy stretch. 

Shubhakara died on the spot after being crushed under the truck wheels, while Swapnajit sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, sources informed.

Following the accident, irate locals staged a protest demanding compensation for the victim’s family. Vehicular movement came to a standstill as the Bhubaneswar-Aska road was blocked for hours.

Police and local administration officials reached the spot and assured prompt action and investigation, after which the blockade was lifted.

Meanwhile, the truck driver has been detained, and further investigation is underway.
