One person went missing after a boat carrying 11 tourists from Remuna in Balasore sank while it was returning from Kalijai on Thursday evening.

The boat is said to have lost its balance near Chadheiguha hill due to gale and severe rain caused by norwester.

The missing person is said to be a local shop keeper who was running a shop at Kalijai.

All the 10 tourists rescued from the lake were rushed to the nearest Balugaon hospital for treatment.

As per reports, a police team which was in the vicinity, saw the boat sinking and rescued the passengers. However, one person could not be traced as he went missing in the waters of Chilika.

Speaking to reporters, Balugaon SDPO, Manas Ranjan Barik said, "We were at Barkul Panthanivas for some work when we received information about the boat mishap. We rushed to the spot and rescued 10 tourists."

The rescue operation took just more than 30 minutes because of strong wind and rains. However, we succeeded in rescuing 10 persons. One person is still missing. Our teams are on it and we will find him soon," said Barik.
