Bhubaneswar Thar tragedy: Two deaths, no arrests so far; Commissionerate Police under fire
Two lives lost, yet no arrests made. Days after a speeding Thar SUV mowed down a mother and her daughter in the Patrapada area in Bhubaneswar, questions are mounting over why the Commissionerate Police failed to apprehend the accused.
The accident took place on Saturday near Patrapada Square under Khandagiri police limits. The minor girl died on the spot, while her mother, identified as Rebati Raul, succumbed to injuries during treatment on Monday.
CCTV footage helped police trace and seize the offending vehicle, but the driver’s identity and the owner’s details still remain shrouded in mystery.
Relatives of the victims allege inaction, questioning whether influential connections are shielding the culprit. “If the vehicle has been seized, why is the driver still free?” asked a family member.
With public anger simmering, the delay in arrest has cast a shadow over the investigation, raising concerns about transparency and accountability.
The fatal incident occurred last Saturday in the Patrapada area when an overspeeding white Thar, allegedly racing with a black Scorpio, ploughed into Rebati, her son, and daughter Reshma. The young girl died instantly, while Rebati and her son were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
With Rebati’s passing, the death toll from the accident has risen to two. Her son remains under treatment in a private hospital.
The tragedy has sparked widespread public outrage, drawing attention to the dangers of reckless driving and illegal street racing in the city.
