One whom the almighty protects cannot be harmed. The saying was once again proven correct as a mere 15-month-old baby boy escaped unhurt in a road accident which claimed his parents and sister.

The incident occurred at Udar village under Titlagarh block in Bolangir district on Thursday and it has since been a matter of discussion in the area.

Unknown about the misfortune lurking on the road, Saroj Pasayat, his wife, three-year-old daughter and son were going on a bike to attend a relative’s marriage function at Khujenpali village under Sadar Police limits.

But fate had something different in store for them. As they were moving towards Khujenpali, a bus heading from Bolangir to Titlagarh hit them. Under the impact of the collision, Saroj died on the spot. However, his wife, daughter and son were rescued and immediately rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir.

A few minutes later, Saroj’s wife and daughter succumbed to their injuries, leaving behind the 15-month-old baby all alone.

Meanwhile, the last rites of the three deceased were performed at the village cremation ground while the entire village plunged into a pall of gloom. What worried one and all was the question: What would become of the baby boy?
