As many as five coaches of Visakhapanam-Kirandul special passenger train derailed in Jeypore on Monday afternoon.

According to sources Visakhapanam-Kirandul passenger special train bearing the number 08551 derailed between Jeypore and Chatriput stations. Due to the mishap which took place after crossing Jeypore Railway Station, one sleeper class and three general coaches got derailed. There were no casualties. 

Accident Relief Trains have been ordered to rush to the site for immediate restoration operations. Divisional Railway Manager Anup Satpathy, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Infra Sudhir Kumar Gupta, ADRM Operations Shri Manoj Kumar Sahoo and other officers are monitoring the relief operations. Alternate transport arrangements were made for stranded passengers.

The Railways have suspended a section engineer and a gangman for the derailment, informed DRM Anup Satpathy.

As per the latest reports, four coaches were re-railed by 8.20 pm and the site was cleared. No train was affected or detained except the derailed train. Every passenger was sent to their destination from the accident site by specially hired car and bus, the East Coast Railway said in a press release. 

In a major development, the General Manager of the ECoR has ordered for an enquiry by JAG officers of Head Quarters in connection with the derailment of the train. A team will be nominated by Principal Chief Safety Officer subsequently.
