At least four people were crushed to death in a tragic road mishap on National-16 near Badapokharia under Jankia police limits in Khordha district early Thursday morning. Among the deceased are two men and two women.

The incident occurred while the four were coming from Andhra Pradesh by a car. The speeding vehicle rammed into a stationed truck on National Highway-16 after the driver lost balance on the wheels of the vehicle. All the four died on the spot, reports said.

While no exact reason for the accident was known immediately, locals suspect it may be due to the dense fog in the morning.

Both the car and the truck are from Andhra Pradhan as they have AP number plates, reports said. So, the deceased are believed to be from AP even though police is yet to ascertain their identity.

All the four were in the age group of 25-35 years, said sources. Police is yet to ascertain the reason of their travel to Odisha

On being informed, Jankia police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. The bodies were then sent to Khordha District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by two ambulances.

Cops have seized two mobile phones from the accident spot and are trying to ascertain the identities of the deceased. Both the vehicles have also been seized.

Further investigation into the incident is on, police said.
