4 Critically Injured In Firecracker Blast In Pipili

In a tragic incident, four persons were critically injured in a firecracker mishap at Pipili in Puri district on Friday.

The mishap occurred during the celebration of ‘Dola Melana’ in Bhagawatipur under Balanga police station.

As per reports, more than 10 people received injuries after the crackers went off accidentally during the festivities. 4 of them are stated to be critical.

The injured were rushed to local hospital, of whom two have been referred to a hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Police have rushed to the spot along with fire brigade for the rescue operation. The police officials are investigating who brought the fire crackers from where and who gave them permission to burst those.

Sources said ‘Dola Melana’ or ‘Radha-Krishna Melana’ utsav is celebrated in a grand way in the area every year during Dola Purnima. Attractive fireworks are demonstrated during the procession of the Melana. This time things did not go as planned, resulting in the mishap, sources added.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
