At least 25 tourists, who were on their way to Puri from West Bengal, sustained serious injuries after the bus ferrying them overturned on National Highway-16 near Bhandaripokhari petrol pump in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.

Of the 25 injured, condition of six is stated to be critical, sources said.

Swinging into action, the local police with the help of firefighters resumed the rescue operation and admitted the injured to the local hospital. After preliminary treatment, many of the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for better medical care.

The incident occurred while the bus carrying at least 70 people from West Bengal was en route to Puri. While no exact reason for the tragic road mishap was known immediately, sources said the bus overturned after the driver lost balance on the wheels.
