As many as 25 passengers sustained injuries after a bus in which they were travelling in lost control and overturned on the National Highway-18 near Krushnachandrapur in Mayurbhanj district late on Sunday night.

According to sources, the mishap took place when the ill-fated bus named Indrani with over 50 passengers on board was on its way to Bhubaneswar from Rairangpur.

The driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels and it overturned on Baripada-Betanati route leaving 25 passengers wounded.

Upon being informed about the incident, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) ambulances and Fire Services personnel reached the spot and rescued the injured passengers. The rescue operation was carried out for around half an hour.

All the injured have been admitted to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital, Baripada. Of the 25 injured, the health conditions of four were stated to be critical, sources informed.

It is believed that overspeeding might have resulted in the mishap.

Meanwhile, Betanati police reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.
