2 women meet watery grave while bathing in pond in Odisha village

Tragedy struck Lingagarh village under G Udayagiri police limits in Kandhamal district after two women drowned while bathing in a village pond today. 

The deceased have been identified as Suryakanti Pradhan and Kurumani Pradhan. 

According to a source, the duo had gone to the pond to take a bath. While bathing, Kurumani’s feet slipped and she went into the deep of the pond. Seeing her drowning, Suryakanti went to her rescue and met the same fate. 

Local people immediately informed the fire department. After reaching the spot, the fire personnel launched an operation and rescued them. However, by then they had already died. 

On getting information, a team from G Udayagiri reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. 

Registering an unnatural death case, the police have initiated a detailed probe. 

As the news spread, a pall of gloom descended on the village.
