12 labourers injured as borewell drilling vehicle overturns at Taptapani Ghat

As many as 12 persons sustained multiple injuries after a borewell drilling vehicle overturned at Taptapani Ghat on the Ganjam-Gajapati border on Sunday.

As per initial reports, the borewell-digging vehicle turned turtle after its driver lost control of the steering wheel while negotiating a steep turn. The mishap occurred when the vehicle was on its way to Ganjam from Gajapati district.

Sources said two persons were reportedly trapped under the heavy vehicle and a massive operation was underway to rescue him. Fortunately, the two of them have been rescued safely, reports said. The rescue operation was conducted in the presence of Pattapur police and the local fire department.

Of the total 12 injured persons, the condition of 5 persons was said to be critical. All of them have been admitted to Digapahandi Hospital.

An investigation will also be conducted to ascertain the exact reason behind the accident.
