At least 10 labourers were injured after the pickup van they were travelling in overturned near Nandika Square on National Highway-16 under Jaleswar police limits in Balasore district on Tuesday. 

While the identities of the injured labourers are yet to be ascertained, it is learnt that some 40 labourers were going from Baramile area in Mayurbhanj district to Kamarda in Balasore district to work as farm labourers. 

As the van was nearing Nandika Square, the driver lost control of the wheel due to some reasons and the van overturned.  

The injured persons were immediately rescued and rushed to GK Bhattar Hospital in Jaleswar. 

“We were around 40 travelling in the van. One of the wheels got punctured, leading to the mishap,” said an injured labourer. 

Recounting the mishap, an eyewitness said, “The vehicle veered towards the left side of the road and then overturned. Hearing the cries for help, I rushed to the spot. I rescued four injured persons who were trapped under the van. One of them was critically injured.”
