Bhubaneswar: A minor brawl at a cricket match turned ugly after a group of students allegedly brandished firearms to threaten another group in Baramunda area of Bhubaneswar today.

According to reports, a minor scuffle during a cricket match had already occurred in Rental Colony area of the city on Friday. Again today, youths from Nayapalli and Rental area went to Baramunda and threatened and manhandled some students at gun point.

However, locals intervened and got hold of the group of miscreants. Later, they handed over the miscreants along with the gun to police officials.

"Few youths from another area were trying to create disturbance in the locality. They were pointing a gun at a few youths present there so we opposed them," said a local.

Five youths have been detained in connection with the incident and a Mauser has been seized from them.

"Probe till now has revealed that a fight between two groups during a cricket match held yesterday led to today's incident," said Bhubaneswar DCP, Satyabrata Bhoi.

Meanwhile, police officials have launched a probe to trace the origin and seller of the gun.
