Officials said that updating the mobile numbers will help users receive important alerts, notifications, and service-related information linked to the driving licences and vehicle registrations.

The Ministry also clarified that there is no requirement to visit Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for this purpose, as the entire process can be completed online.

The initiative is expected to reduce crowding at RTOs and promote digital services across the country. Citizens have been encouraged to complete the update at the earliest to avoid inconvenience in availing transport-related facilities.

In a post on its social media handle ‘X’, the Ministry stated, “Driving Licence holders and vehicle owners are advised to update their mobile numbers on the Vahan and Sarathi portals to ensure that their records remain accurate and up-to-date. Please visit: http://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/mobileupdate and http://sarathi.parivahan.gov.in #Parivahan #DigitalIndia #TransportServices.”

“Online facility has been provided to update mobile number in the portal without visiting RTOs,” the Ministry further said.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, the Orissa High Court had issued a notice on Friday to the Transport Secretary and State Transport Authority (STA) in connection with the alleged enforcement of Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates.

The notice had been issued in a case alleging violation of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019.
