The results of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, released on Friday, have triggered an unusual controversy after two candidates with the same name claimed to have secured Rank 301, leading to confusion and widespread discussion online.
Both claimants are women named Akanksha Singh, and each has asserted that she achieved the same rank in the merit list.
Two Candidates Claim Same Rank
The issue first gained attention when a candidate from Bihar publicly stated that she had secured Rank 301 in the examination. Her claim soon began circulating in media and on social media platforms.
However, the situation became more complicated when another candidate with the identical name also stated that she had obtained the same position in the results.
The second claimant is currently based in Delhi and originally belongs to Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh.
Questions Over Roll Number
The controversy intensified after documents shared by both candidates showed the same roll number - 0856794.
According to details circulating alongside the claims, the candidate from Bihar presented an admit card carrying this roll number. However, it was reported that the barcode printed on the same admit card displayed a different number, 0856569.
In contrast, the admit card shared by the Delhi-based candidate reportedly showed the roll number and barcode number as identical, both reading 0856794.
Delhi Candidate Issues Clarification
Amid the confusion, the Delhi-based Akanksha Singh released a video statement addressing the issue. In the video, she introduced herself as a doctor and said she had only recently become aware that another candidate with the same name was claiming the same rank.
Debate Continues Online
The discrepancy between the roll number and barcode on the admit card shown by the Bihar candidate has raised questions about the authenticity of the claim.
At the same time, the Bihar-based candidate has maintained that she cleared the examination and also shared her admit card.
