Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the Surat–Bilimora stretch will be the first operational section of India’s ambitious Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. During his inspection of the track and station works, Vaishnaw said significant progress has been achieved, with several new technologies being introduced for the first time in Indian railway construction. He added that the station features a large central concourse and specially designed high-speed rail turnouts, ensuring safety at speeds above 320 kmph. The Surat–Bilimora section is expected to be operational by 2027.
Passenger-Centric Station Design
The upcoming Surat Bullet Train station has been designed with a strong focus on passenger comfort and modern amenities. It will feature soothing interiors, natural lighting through skylights, waiting lounges, nursery, restrooms, and retail outlets. Special provisions such as lifts, escalators, clear signages, information kiosks, and public announcement systems are being installed for accessibility, especially for the elderly and differently abled.
The station will also integrate seamlessly with other transport modes under the SMART project, planned in collaboration with Surat Municipal Corporation and Surat Urban Development Authority. Connectivity will include metro, BRTS buses, taxis, autos, and railways to ensure smooth passenger movement.
Sustainable And Symbolic Architecture
Located in Antroli village, the station incorporates sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting, eco-friendly paints, and natural ventilation. Its design draws inspiration from Surat’s diamond industry, symbolizing a diamond facet.
The 508 km Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor is progressing rapidly, with major viaducts, bridges, tunnels, and depots already under construction.
