President Murmu, PM Modi extend New Year greetings; pray for peace and happiness for all

President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her New Year wishes to the nation. In her message, she prayed for peace, happiness and prosperity for all citizens. “May the year 2026 bring peace, happiness and prosperity into our lives and infuse new energy to build a stronger and prosperous India,” the President wrote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday also extended New Year 2026 greetings to the nation, wishing good health, prosperity and renewed confidence for all citizens.

In a message posted on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, “Happy 2026 to you all. May this year bring new hopes, new resolve and new confidence to everyone. May it inspire everyone to move forward in life.”

PM Modi also highlighted the importance of cultivating key values and life qualities, including knowledge, detachment, wealth, valour, splendour, strength and memory. He further emphasised independence, skill, radiance, patience and gentleness as essential virtues for personal and national progress.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also took to X to extend New Year 2026 greetings, expressing hope for good health, happiness and success for all.

Meanwhile, New Year 2026 was welcomed across the country with fireworks, prayers and public celebrations. People marked the occasion with family and friends in cities, hill towns and religious centres, ushering in the New Year with optimism and festivity.
