Prime Minister Narendra Modi added another milestone to his global diplomatic journey after being conferred ‘The First Class of the Order of Oman’, the highest civilian honour of the Gulf nation. The recognition places him in an elite group of world leaders and marks yet another chapter in India’s growing international stature.

The prestigious award has previously been bestowed upon legendary global figures such as Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth II, Emperor Akihito of Japan, Queen Máxima, and King Abdullah of Jordan. For PM Modi, this marks his 29th international honour, underlining his expanding global influence and India’s strengthened ties with key partners.

India-Oman CEPA Signed

A major highlight of the visit was the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Both leaders welcomed the agreement, describing it as a transformative step in strengthening the India-Oman strategic partnership.

According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the pact is expected to boost bilateral trade, attract investments, enhance supply chains, promote economic diversification, and generate employment opportunities in both countries.

Beyond Trade: Wider Cooperation

During discussions, PM Modi and Sultan Haitham exchanged views on a wide range of areas including defence and security, energy, agriculture, technology, culture, and people-to-people ties, while also addressing regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Looking Ahead

PM Modi also addressed the India-Oman Business Forum, highlighting India’s economic reforms over the past 11 years that have positioned the country as one of the world’s most competitive markets. The honour and agreements signed during the visit signal a new momentum in India-Oman relations, built on trust, shared growth, and a forward-looking partnership.
