PM Modi urges citizens to celebrate 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’ on November 7

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 127th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, emphasized the enduring power of India’s national song, Vande Mataram, as a symbol of patriotism and unity. He described patriotism as an emotion beyond words, with Vande Mataram giving tangible voice to that feeling.

Tracing its origins, PM Modi recalled that Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay composed the song in the 19th century to inspire a nation weakened by centuries of colonial rule. He highlighted how the song continues to evoke love for the motherland and a sense of duty as children of India. He also noted its first public rendition by Rabindranath Tagore in 1896.

The Prime Minister said the chant of Vande Mataram has long served as a rallying cry for unity, filling 140 crore Indians with energy and resolve during difficult times. He pointed out the song’s deep connection to India’s ancient wisdom and the values enshrined in the Vedas.

Call for 150th celebration

Highlighting the 150th year of Vande Mataram on November 7, PM Modi urged citizens to celebrate the milestone and carry forward its message for future generations. He said numerous programs and events will be organized across the country to glorify the national song.

Mann Ki Baat is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month to engage citizens on important national issues.
