The Indian Government has announced that linking Aadhaar with PAN will be mandatory by December 31, 2025. From January 1, 2026, any PAN not linked will be marked inactive.

This would disrupt key financial banking and financial activities, including filing income tax returns, claiming refunds, and higher TDS/TCS will be deducted. Moreover, salary credits and routine account operations may be affected as part of the move.

 How To Link Aadhar With Pan

             Visit the Income Tax e-Filing Website

             Click on ‘Link Aadhaar’

             Enter your 10-digit PAN and 12-digit Aadhaar number

             Linking beyond the deadline will attract a ₹1,000 penalty

             Click Continue to Pay Through e-Pay Tax

             Enter PAN + mobile number → verify with OTP

             Submit the Linking Request.

             Return to the Link Aadhaar page.

             Re-enter PAN, Aadhaar, name

             Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile

             Click Validate to submit your request.

How To Check If Your Aadhar PAN Is Already Linked?

             Go to the Income Tax e-Filing Website

             Click “Link Aadhaar Status”.

             Enter PAN number and Aadhaar number

             Click “View Link Aadhaar Status”.

             You will see one of these messages:

“Your Aadhaar is already linked with PAN”

“Your Aadhaar–PAN linking request is pending”

“Aadhaar is not linked with PAN”

 Notably, several categories are exempted from Aadhaar-PAN linking, which include NRIs, non-citizens of India, individuals aged above 80 years at any time during the previous years or residents of Assam, Meghalaya or Jammu & Kashmir.
