The package of four labour codes, Code on Wages, Industrial Relations Code, Code on Social Security, 2020 and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, replaces 29 older laws, aiming to simplify compliance, strengthen worker protections, and bring transparency to wage payments.

Besides timely wage disbursal, the new laws mandate equal pay for equal work, grant social-security benefits even to fixed-term and contract IT workers, and require appointment letters.

For women in IT/ITES, the code explicitly allows night-shift work under regulated conditions, opening up access to night-shift wages and aiming to boost gender inclusion.

Overall, the reforms aim to modernize labour rules, offering wage certainty and broader employment protections to India’s technology workforce.
