Indian Army signs Rs 293 crore deal for indigenous long-range rocket launcher ‘Suryastra’
The Indian Army has signed a Rs 293 crore contract with Pune-based private defence manufacturer NIBE Ltd., in collaboration with Israeli defence major Elbit Systems, for the supply of an advanced long-range rocket launcher system, ‘Suryastra’, under emergency procurement powers.
The system features strike capabilities of 150 km and 300 km, significantly enhancing the Army’s deep-strike artillery firepower and operational reach.
NIBE secures Rs 293Cr rocket launcher deal
The development was confirmed by NIBE Ltd. in a letter to the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange on Friday. The contract covers manufacturing and supply of ground equipment, accessories, ESP, and ammunition for the universal rocket launcher system, capable of integrating multiple rocket types for precision surface-to-surface strikes.
Suryastra, India’s first Made-in-India universal multicalibre rocket launcher, can engage multiple targets simultaneously and has demonstrated a circular error probable (CEP) of less than five metres in trials.
In July 2025, NIBE Ltd. signed a Technology Collaboration Agreement (TCA) with Elbit Systems to domestically produce the advanced rocket launcher. This marks the first time a high-precision system with a 300 km strike range is being manufactured in India.

The acquisition falls under the Defence Acquisition Council's provisions, which allow emergency procurement until January 15, enabling the defence forces to procure weapons systems worth up to Rs 300 crore without further clearances. The deal strengthens India’s indigenous defence production capabilities and battlefield readiness.
