BJP National Vice President and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda termed the recent breakthrough in India-US trade talks as ‘historic,’ highlighting its significance beyond bilateral commerce.
Speaking on the agreement, Panda said, “It is not just a trade deal that will redefine trade between the two largest democracies in the world; it will also have a positive global impact and help stabilise many aspects of trade and geopolitics.”
He congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on the landmark deal, noting that it is expected to strengthen economic ties between the two countries while contributing to broader global stability.
In a significant development, the United States has lowered the reciprocal tariff on imports from India from 25% to 18%, US President Donald Trump announced on Monday, following a phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
President Trump added that India is expected to reduce its own tariffs and non-tariff barriers on American goods to zero, a key component of the anticipated trade agreement between the two nations.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step for Indian industry and exporters.
“Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today,” he wrote, adding that Made in India products would now attract a reduced tariff of 18%. Modi thanked Trump “on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this wonderful announcement,” he wrote on X.
