Full emergency declared as SpiceJet Delhi-Leh flight returns after engine failure

A full emergency was declared on Tuesday morning after a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Leh reported an engine issue shortly after takeoff. The aircraft safely returned to the national capital, officials said.

According to sources, the flight turned back following an “Engine Number 2 failure.” The Boeing 737, carrying around 150 passengers, landed safely in Delhi at approximately 6.45 am.

A SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed that the flight operating on February 24 experienced a technical issue and returned as a precautionary measure. “The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were disembarked normally. There was no fire warning in the cockpit,” the spokesperson said.

In a separate incident on Sunday, an IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad to Dibrugarh was diverted to Imphal due to severe weather conditions.

The flight, carrying 144 passengers, encountered a heavy dust storm that significantly reduced visibility at Dibrugarh airport. Officials said the aircraft, operating as 6E-6457 via Guwahati, departed from Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 10.20 am and was scheduled to land at Dibrugarh at 11.15 am.

However, with visibility falling below minimum safety limits, the crew opted to divert the aircraft to Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal to ensure passenger safety.
