In a coordinated operation, the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Bihar Police shot dead four members of Bihar’s notorious Ranjan Pathak gang during an encounter in Rohini during the early hours of Thursday. The exchange of fire occurred at around 2:20 AM between Dr Ambedkar Chowk and Pansali Chowk on Bahadur Shah Marg.
The deceased have been identified as Ranjan Pathak (25), Bimlesh Mahto alias Bimlesh Sahni (25), Manish Pathak (33), and Aman Thakur (21).
As per reports, Ranjan Pathak, Bimlesh Mahto and Manish Pathak hailed from Sitamarhi in Bihar, while Aman Thakur was a resident of Karwal Nagar in Delhi. All four were wanted in several criminal cases in Bihar, including multiple murders and armed robberies. They were also accused of involvement in the killings of Brahmashri Sena district head Ganesh Sharma, Madan Sharma, and Aditya Singh.
Police Trap Following Specific Intelligence Inputs
According to sources, the joint operation followed credible intelligence inputs suggesting that the gang members were planning a major criminal act ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Acting on this information, a trap was laid in the Rohini area. When the police team attempted to intercept the suspects, they allegedly opened fire, prompting police retaliation. A brief but intense exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in bullet injuries to all four men.
Forensic Teams Called In for Examination
The injured were then rushed to a hospital in Rohini, where doctors declared them dead. DCP Crime Branch Sanjeev Yadav confirmed that the encounter was based on specific intelligence about the gang’s movement in Delhi, reportedly.
Senior officials from both Delhi and Bihar Police later visited the site, while forensic and crime scene examination teams carried out inspections. Police stated that several sections under the Arms Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita were registered against the accused in Dumra, Chaurat, Gahra and Purnahiya. Further investigation into the case is underway, as sources said.
