Dense fog hits flight operations; IndiGo issues travel advisory

IndiGo issued a travel advisory on Tuesday night warning passengers of possible delays on Wednesday morning due to dense fog expected across parts of North and East India. The airline said reduced visibility under misty winter conditions could slow flight movements during early hours, leading to schedule adjustments in the interest of safety.

In a post on X, IndiGo said airport teams are fully prepared and working closely to manage operations, assist passengers and ensure a steady flow of services. Travellers, especially those with early-morning flights, were advised to plan ahead, allow extra time to reach airports and regularly check flight status through the airline’s website or mobile app.

The airline also cautioned that foggy conditions could affect road traffic, resulting in slower commutes and longer travel times to airports. IndiGo thanked passengers for their patience, adding that visibility is expected to improve as the day progresses.

The advisory comes amid widespread fog affecting flight operations in the national capital. Earlier on Tuesday, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi issued a similar warning, noting that departures and arrivals could face disruptions due to low visibility. While flight operations were gradually stabilising, the airport said some delays might continue and urged passengers to stay in touch with airlines for real-time updates.

The situation is further aggravated by poor air quality in Delhi, with the Air Quality Index remaining in the ‘very poor’ category, compounding visibility challenges during early morning hours.
