Delhi police SWAT commando killed by husband over alleged dowry harassment
Kajal Chaudhary, a 27-year-old Delhi Police SWAT commando, died after being brutally assaulted by her husband, Ankur, who allegedly struck her on the head with a dumbbell during a violent altercation. The incident occurred on the night of January 22 at their residence in Mohan Garden Extension, West Delhi.
According to police and family members, Ankur, a Ministry of Defence clerk posted in Delhi Cantonment, called Kajal’s brother Nikhil during the assault and made chilling statements, claiming he was killing her. Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, said he heard his sister screaming before the call abruptly ended. Minutes later, Ankur allegedly called again to inform him that Kajal was dead, as per media reports.
Kajal, who was four months pregnant at the time, was rushed to a hospital in Ghaziabad, where she succumbed to her injuries on January 27. Ankur was arrested shortly after, and a murder case has been registered.
The family has alleged prolonged dowry harassment by Ankur, his mother, and his sisters. Despite giving expensive gifts at the wedding, Kajal was allegedly subjected to continued abuse and financial pressure. She is survived by a one-and-a-half-year-old son, who is currently with her maternal grandparents.
